I have just built a computer.
Here is my problem: I am having a problem getting into DOS.

After the system verifies DMI pool data, I get an
"DISK BOOT FAILURE. PLEASE INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND TRY AGAIN"
This may seem a reasonably straight forward problem, however as far as I can see it is not.

What I have:
Using Various Boot Disks, from various sources, (4 in total)
Used a Norton System works boot disk
Used a new HDD in IDE 1 from another computer that already has windows on it and boots fine
Tried another FDD
Ensured all cables are in place
Tried booting with just a FDD
Set BIOS to fail safe Defaults

I have come across problems similar to this before as I am a Technical Engineer for Staples UK Ltd. and have always overcome the problem. Unfortuantly I can not sort this problem out.

Check the boot sequence, set it to A;C in BIOS.
Check the floppy cable and drive.
Check the floppy ribbon cable orientation and make sure the LED doesn't stay on all the time, if it does turn one end over.
Check BIOS to ensure the floppy is set as the correct type.
Make sure Swap Floppy Drive and Floppy 3 Mode Support are both disabled in BIOS.
Write protect a proper boot disk for the Operating System and check it to be sure it works on a different machine, and make SURE it stays write protected.
try a different power cable to the floppy drive.

That's about all I can think of, I think a bad floppy cable or controller is the most likely bet.
