Very Dark Video

For years ... this computer has had dark video performance. Three monitors and two Diamond Stealth (4 meg and 8 meg)cards have failed to fix the problem. All three monitors required maximum brightness and contrast settings at all times, even in a completely dark room, for the displays to be only acceptable. Most online .jpg images are very dark - almost black - and must be downloaded and seriously brightened in a software program such as ACDSee to view. Mpeg and Avi downloads are useless - just dark shadows of images. My Olympus digital camera downloads are equally dark and must be seriously brightened. Friends complain that images I send are too bright.

Mother board is 586MMX VX Pro Chipset (v5.1), 233 AMD K6

Have you tried moving the video card to a different PCI slot? This is a stumper to me for sure........the only thing I can think of is a problem Power Supply or bad PCI slot.
