View Full Version : Monitor Shadowing

I just picked up a used 20" Silicon Graphics monitor...it's an aperture grill monitor and has a strange behavior...it appears that on-screen images are "doubled" slightly to the right of the original image...

For example, if the letter "R" is typed, just to the right of the "R" is a VERY faint outline of the "R"...I have tried adjusting the convergence controls, which did not help...

I know that the aperture grills can loosen, resulting in distortion...but is there another possible cause for this?

It's barely noticeable...so I'll probably get used to it and I like the huge display...but is this a common problem?

Not sure if it's a common problem, could need degaussing. Take it to a shop and see about having it done, and some monitors have a degaussing button. That might do it.

Might also be the monitor settings, if you set Display Properties to the specific monitor you might try setting it to Standard SVGA or Standard VGA and see if it works better. Could also be the refresh rate, but I would doubt it...Check the manufacturer's website, see if they have any info.

Well, after mucho troubleshooting...it turns out my Voodoo5 card just doesn't get along with the new monitor (at least as far as I can tell) the monitor works flawlessly with another system...moving spekers and wires didn't help, but thanks for the advice...
