Just this evening i turned on my monitor and found that the picture was bend on both right and left sides.Even when booting up the picture is bend.I tried to make the edges straight like the top and bottom of the picture by using the approriate buttons on the monitor but no luck.I was lucky to borrow my neighbour's monitor which i hooked up and there was no bend so this cannot be a video card problem. Is my monitor done for ? Please help!!!

How old is your monitor? Newer models have better EMI shielding. If you have speakers or "wall warts" (DC power supplies) close to your monitor, that may be the culprit. I've also seen this caused by the receiving unit for a cordless keyboard/mouse.

I get a similar effect when the monitor is loosley plugged to the vid-card.
Try different positions for the cable, might solve your problem.

Hi,
My guess would be that the monitor is magnetized. If you have the option on your monitor to DeGauss, I would try that.

I had this monitor from August 1999 and it worked perfectly until Sunday evening.I tried degausing it and that didnt work.I even check the monitor cord and it still the same. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif By the way i plugged out my monitor power cord and plugged it back in then turned on back my pc and the sides was stretched out even the start button disappeared. So i had to adjust it enough to see the start button.(This is the first time i see this weird effect}The hour glass shape picture is still there anyway i do not know what else to do.The pincushion and Trapezoid buttons just dont work any more. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

Hi,
Yup, seen this before in my don't ask (25) years of repairing monitors and tv's. You have a component failure in the horizontal pincushion circuit and now comes the biggest question of all, what size is your monitor? The answer will be cost of repair versus the cost of replacement. I can tell you this that the AVERAGE cost of repair here in Canada is going to run you about $115.

P.S. Don't even think about opening the monitor, it can be hazardous to your health, leathal voltages reside within it.
