I've connected a record turntable to my soundcard (SoundBlaster Live) with the intention of making WAV files from my old LPs.
The soundcard works fine (on all music/games/videos, etc) so there's no problem there.
When I made a few WAV's from the LPs, I noticed a faint buzzing noise on the recordings. I then discovered that this happened when I raised the turntable arm to put the stylus on the record.
The soundcard is obviously picking up this noise from the turntable.
I'd appreciate any help/suggestions on how I can get rid of this buzzing noise before it drives me insane!!!

You might need a noise filter on the phono equipment.....it seems that the output from the phono is coming into the "input" jack of your sound card with background noise.......if you dont get this noise thru your regular speakers when playing through the Amplifier with vinyl records, then try going from the amp output to the sound card...but remember to turn it(amp vol) down quite a bit when doing so.

This one seems to be a problem with either the grounding of the turntable (how exactly do you have it hooked up) or "crosstalk" betweeen the input and the output. If you are using just cables and splitters to make the connection the most likely it is a grounding problem or a bad cable. If you are going through an amplifier or pre-amp make sure that the connections for the turntable are secure and that the ground wire for the turntable is connected ot the amp or pre-amp. If you are using an amp then try to use a tape monitor loop to go to your sound card (also does the sound card specify what kind of input it has).

I've actually solved the problem and it's down to you both for your help, so THANK YOU!!
I got myself a lead with a 'ground wire attachment' which fits in the back of my amp and this has eliminated the buzzing sound.
I did have the turntable going directly into the PC, but found the sound quality improved all round when I rigged it to the amp and then plugged that into the PC.
Thanks once again for your help.
