hi
was looking at the soundblaster site and noticed that my soundcard: Creative Sound Blaster PCI Audio Card with EAX 1.0- (128)has MUCH newer drivers available for download.
My sound now is excellent- and I am happy, so should I leave it alone or update??
what do y'all think ..

Sea,
One of the things I've seen about alot of the driver updates (at least for video cards) is that they try to correct problems with various games. Maybe the readme file will have a list of what the update fixes? Also remember DX8 came out a few months ago so the updates may be including DX8 support.....

Do Vulcans even have to debug?
Sea.
Another annoying thing about SB was and still is the defective drivers they include with the SB Live cards.
All of them . Live gamer, Live Value and Live Pro.
I hate those Blue Screens you get after installing the drivers from the install disk.
But I also Have to agree with the others. It's tempting to install the latest and greatest.
However I also have to look at.
If it works for you now.
Then why mess with it.

And I thought I was the only one...it's 6 of one, half dozen of the other. "It works, don't fix it", one side of my brain says. The other side (the crazy half) keeps nagging at me..."but...new drivers! COOL!"...
There's always the old standy by, toss a coin... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

hehe yes, it works FINE- now.. really good sound- surprises many people when they hear it. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
and especially from what I have heard about SB, I should be happy that it's all good as it is.
This isn't "Live" or "Pro".. it is SB 128 as above mentioned, so who knows.. this isn't as popular a soundcard as most I see mentioned by everyone..(needing help with).. however it works GREAT.. also as Pete has mentioned, I have not- seen this- soundcard mentioned (hardly EVER) compared to the snazzy "LIve" and Pro Maximum Starburst Premium Spend another $100.00 dollar ones.. heh
** all kidding aside- can anyone tell me why that is ??

Not mentioned often cause the "Live-Value" card - a pared down ver. of the more expensive Live cards, is about the same price or less ...under $50 most places. The Live card has the capability to be "Firmware" updated with some of the neat reverb and accoustical stuff Creative comes out with.

Hey Sea,
I have the SB PCI512. I wouldn't trade it for nuttin. It has more bells and whistles than I know what to do with. The environmental audio rocks and so does the four-speaker support. Besides a couple of nice Koss HD-50 speakers, I also have the Soundworks Microworks system with subwoofer and two satellite speakers hooked up to it. Oh yeah!
Don't know the answer to your question, just thought I would make an appearance today. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Cheers,
