I have a Celeron 400, with 32 MB of RAM and the video and saound cards are part of the motherboard. The modem was giving me problems, so I "add/removed" it, then I shut down, and removed the old modem and put in a new one. When I turned on the machine, the monitor light flashes like it has no signal and the A: drive makes its noise, followed by two beeps, then this just repeats. I have tried to remove the modem, then replace the old, I have tried with no modem, still everytime the same response. The slots are PCI if that matters, any help would be appreciated.

Only thing I can think of right now is reseat the memory chips. The PC Guide's Beep Codes (http://www.pcguide.com/ts/x/sys/beep/index.htm) might help you identify the problem.

You may have just accidently nudged something. Push on the power and data cables on the back of the drive(s) to make sure they're tight, check the memory seating like Pete said, and maybe also check the power supply connection to the motherboard. If you have a small case, it's not all that hard to loosen something inadvertantly. Could you have dropped the screw that secures the modem to the back panel?

I have tried to reset the RAM and it does the same thing, I have pretty much unplugged everything and put it back????? Still the same result.
Is the computer in question an HP Pavilion or eMachines eTower?
If it is you may want to try unplugging the monitor cable and turning on the machine, hit <F1> (HP) or <del> (eMach) and then <F5> then <F10> and then <enter>. This will reload the BIOS default settings. Then shutdown and reattach the monitor and see what happens next. The monitor doesn't absolutely have to be disconnected to do this. The process is similar for other machines, you just need to know which keystrokes will restore the defaults and which is the save and exit keystroke.
