I've got Adaptec's Easy CD creator on my system and I was wondering if there was a way to make it recognise 80min CD-Rs.

When I place an 80min disc in, it shows up as 74min and won't allow me to copy anything longer than 74mins!!! GGGGrrrrrr!!!

Would appreciate any help/advice on this.

I think that's a limitation of the Adaptec software. You may be able to get an upgrade or help at their web site. Otherwise, try a different program like Nero. This may also depend on the age of the drive, or its features.

hehe..all is not lost.... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

with Adaptec Easy..blabla.... it says/shows- only 74 mins (on the scale at the bottom).. but it WILL GO to any size disk (CD-Blank) that you put in.

What it does is call it 'Overtime'..(as 74 minutes is the standard).. so if you want to put 80 mins of (I suppose) mp3 music files on, it will read that you have (up to) 6 minutes "Overtime" on an 80 minute blank CD.

so don't worry it WILL 'burn' 80 minutes (approximately), if the CD is an 700MB disk.

The key- is to NOT..go over 800MB's, it will ask if you want to remove anything to make it fit. You can not go any fraction over the capacity- of the Blank Cd you are trying to use, it is physically impossible..lol

so, if the last song/file- you put in your Layout goes over that capacity- it will not "create"- you will need to put in a song/file- that's smaller/shorter.

hope this sorts it out for you.. please respond to let us know http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the tip, Sea69.

I just put the CD in the drive, and loaded the tracks (keeping it within the 80mins!) The 'Overtime' message did appear, but I ignored it and started the record. Tested the finished CD and all's well.

Thanx for your help!!!

Actually you can also do what's called "overburning" although not all cd burners will...what it is, is recording onto the extra 90 seconds of space built into cds according to the redbook (I think) standard...

So actually, a 74 minute cd is 75.5 minutes...the only problem with this is that not all cd drives will read overburned cds since they are no longer written according to the cd standard...most newer computer cdroms should be fine, but cd players may not work with them...

I have also heard (although I think it is probably untrue) that overburning can damage your burner, I don't see how this is possible though...

And I have never seen a cd burner that could not write 80 minute cds, regardless of what the software says...

I Burn 80 min cds all the time with ezcd creator. I used to use
ezcd 4.0, and now use the platinum version 5.0. It burns 80 min cd's
fine with either program. The Platinum version has another benefit
that you can burn with something called Soundstream which has a
normalizer function. That equals out the volume level so all the vols
are somewhat equal.
