Monitor wigging out on me

Hi all...

Got a good one, I think. My monitor (17" Protech) is a year old. Just yesterday, it started freaking out a little. After an undeterminate period of time, the screen blanks out and there is only a thin line at the top. It appears as if the vertical deflection isn't working right.

Anyone know of a way to take care of this? Or am I at the mercy of the manufacturer (I think it's still under warranty)?

If it is still under warranty then by all means put yourself at the mercy orf the manufacturer. In most cases it as expensive to repair a monitor as it is to replace it, unless your into the 20"+ high end range. Believe the stickers on monitors NO USER SERVIEABLE PARTS INSIDE, the inside of a monitor can be like playing catch with a hand grenade, do the wrong thing and you could become the next extra crispy offering from your local greasy spoon. Monitors can retain very high voltage levels even after being off and unplugged for and extended period of time. And if it is inded the vertical deflection circuit gone bad that woould in most case (price/labor) indicate a replacement.......

All that said, have you tried the simple stuff first? Good connections, good cable?

That's kinda what I figured. After I did all the simple stuff (cables, connections, etc), I contacted the company. I just wanted to idiot check myself before I went that route.

Yeah, I added the crispy critter routine just to head off a whole bunch of people telling you to open it up and play around inside.....
