Does anyone know how to stop Media Player 7 from being the default CD Player? THere is no option to turn it off within the program, and the file association for 'AudioCD' has been eliminated! I have a feeling MP 7 did this. I looked into the Registry and saw a key for AudioCD, with the command line for Media Player in it. I am by no means a registry expert, but I have a feeling this is the way to go. I have Win 98se, and would really prefer Real Jukebox to be my default CD player (CDDB support, my universal jukebox, and MP 7 stinks). Thanks. I've done a little research on the site and found few references to this.

Q: How do I make Windows Media Player my default player for a file type?
A: Go to WMP's Tools:Options:Formats menu dialog. Choose which file types you want WMP to be the default player for, then click apply.
Q: How do I make Windows Media Player not be my default player for a file type?
A: Go to WMP's Tools:Options:Formats menu dialog. Unselect the file types you don't want WMP to be the default player for, then click apply. These settings persist between installs: once you've made changes here, WMP will no longer take the association unless you ask it to.
additionally, RealAudio support was removed from Windows Media Player because
only the older version of the Real formats are supported. You
should use the RealAudio player to play back RealAudio files.
If you really really want to play back RealAudio files using
the Windows Media Player, download and install the DirectX
Media 6.0 Runtime from here (http://www.microsoft.com/windows95/downloads/contents/wuother/directxruntime/default.asp)
This includes the Windows Media Player 6.0 with RealAudio 4.0 support.
You can safely install this over Windows Media Player 6.4, resulting in
Windows Media Player 6.4 with RealAudio 4.0 support.
Note that only RealAudio/RealVideo files version 4.0 or lower are supported.
Note that WMP7 can NOT play back RealMedia files with
or without this filter being installed. Even with this
filter installed, only WMP6 will be able to play back RealMedia files.
does any of this help you ?? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

For some reason, the option to change the default setting for CD audio is not on that menu. Every other file type is except that one. Any other suggestions?

One more note - the option for CD Audio track is on there, but this only applies to tracks accessed through Explorer-like windows. The Auto-insertion feature requires an extension labled Audio CD, which is no longer available. That is what tells Windows which application to use to start playing a CD, and the only reference I can find for it is in the registry.
I think the answer may end up being a reinstall of one of the players (probably JukeBox) and selecting it to be the default during setup.
Or from Real.com:
To set RealJukebox 2 as your default music player after installing:
1. Start RealJukebox.
2. Click the Tolls menu and choose Preferences.
3. Click the General tab.
4. Click the "AutoRestore Settings" button to claim all audio file types.
5. Click the "Re-Associate" button to choose the specific file types.
6. Click OK to save your changes and close Preferences.
Associations for file types used by many programs often change as you add new software to your computer. For example, when you install RealJukebox, the installer can associate RealJukebox with several file formats, including MP3, WAV, and AIFF, and changes their icons to RealJukebox icons. If you later install another program that commonly uses MP3, WAV, and AIFF files, the icons and associations for those formats may in turn switch to the new program.
And then go into WMP7 tools -> options -> general and disable the automatic codec download, that should stop it from autoupdating and resetting itself as default.
