I need to know how the route and/or functions of the digital signals from
CD-Rom(s) get to the external Speakers and/or headphone socket.
At present I get varying effects while trying to diagnose the differences depending on the type of source format.
My system works perfectly with all other audio eg. *.wav, *.mid etc..from any source other than my D: or E: drives.

If you are trying to get (audio) cd's to play on your speakers you need a connection between your cdrom and your soundcard (if it's onboard, there's an onboard connections). If you open your case and no wire from the cdrom (it should be on the opposite side of the power cord) to the soundcard, you'll need to get one. They aren't expensive, and they are easy to connect. Your soundcard should have a 4-pin connection (probably opposite from all the sound jacks) where the wire goes in.
I hope this is what you needed!

Many thanks. All understood. I applied your methods and discovered
that the cause of my Audio failure was the fact that the analogue is channeled via a PCTV card and the connections were faulty. I have now bi-passed the particular card (with the analogue audio going straight out to a separate amplifier system, which is in fact more suitablen to my requirements. THANKS again.
