View Full Version : Weird behavior when switching windows

I'm troubleshooting a computer for a friend. They recently had a close lightning strike that killed the modem and made the screen go black. They couldn't get it to boot soon after, took it to a shop, and, of course, it worked perfectly (except for the modem) at the shop.

Since then, the display has been acting oddly. When you switch between windows, the screen briefly enlarges (perceptibly, but not a great deal), then resumes its normal size. It reminds me of how your screen first behaves when you boot. It seems to do this anytime you switch between windows, or resume a reduced window.

The system is a Gateway EV500 running Win95. The video card is a S3 Inc. Trio 3DAGP (I think it uses 4MB SDRAM on the motherboard instead of built-in VRAM) and a "standard" Gateway plug and play monitor(device manager says VESA DDC).

Any suggestions for what's causing this/how to stop it, or if it's symptomatic of a dying card/monitor would be appreciated.
