Hi, all:

I have a Emachine 300 celeron with 96 MB MM and 2 MB video card. I decide to install a new ATI Rage PCI video card with 8MB.

I can disable the on board video card, install the new one, and get it runs on default standard VGA driver.

The problem is after that I have to install the new video driver which comes with an automatic installation program. When I runs this program, the monitor mess up to only half screen and invisible graph. I have to reboot the PC to get the normal image. I try to delete and install the same program several time, all get the same problem.....

Anyone know what is the problem? Is it the monitor problem? Mime is a 14 " which is very old one when I have the 486 PC.

Any kind information is appreciated.....

Start windows in safe mode (hit F5 key or press ctrl key right before windows logo pops up) and select to start windows in safe mode. Then from My computer-> control panel-> systems-> device manager->
display --> click on + and delete all display device.
Reboot your pc and windows should find your new card and ask you for driver. Install new drivers for
the new video card and then go to control panel->display->setting to set the mode you want to.

Hope this help.

I still have problem to install the ATI Video Card Xpert 98. It is very strange, I delete all the video device and reboot the PC. After that, I install the driver of XPERT 98 PCI, but the video image and color are not right. If I goto Control panel -> Display -> Setting, the monitor will be blank out without any warning or notice. The whole PC is hanging there and dead. If I reboot the PC again, it will try to find the video driver for the on board AGP video card. Therefore, after the second time rebooting, it will have to two monitor and two video devices. I also found the setting of J11 in Como3 is useless. If I set to 1-2 or 2-3, it will always set to two monitors and two video devices.

Anyone can help me or any kind hint? I am very aprreciated for all kinds of help.

Go into device manager and click on the display and for the onboard video click "disable in this hardware profile". Windows will no longer look for the onboard video, also before you reboot change the setting for the ATI card to "Standard VGA". You do this by going to Control Panel -> Display -> Settings -> Advanced -> Adapter -> Change -> Display a list..... -> Show all hardware -> Scroll up to the top (Standard display types) -> Standard VGA, then reboot and then install the ATI driver package.....
