I recently installed Windows 2000 on my Pentium II 300MHz computer. The
setup process detected that I had a RIVA TNT2 M64 AGP card installed, and it
installed the correct drivers. However, the resolution is stuck on 16
colors and I get the error message "This device cannot start (Code 10)" when
I look at the properties of the device under Device Manager.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and even downloaded the latest
drivers from the NVIDIA website, but I still get the same error message.

I previously ran Windows 98 on this computer and upgraded to Win2000 by
changing the file system to NTFS. All WIN98 software has been removed. The
AGP card worked fine on WIN98, so I dont suspect a hardware problem with the
card.

Do you'll have any idea what's causing the problem?

Thanks in advance for your help.

A few words from MS regarding DM error codes http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q125/1/74.ASP

Some of the folks here mention that they had to try several diff drivers before Nirvana was achieved...I can't think of anything else unless somehow there was residual Win 98 strings left in the registry (dont know how if you reformatted...etc.) http://computing.net/cgi-bin/AT-search.cgi There are quite a few hits there with similar problem to yours. Keep us posted so we can learn as well... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I've managed to solve this problem, with the help of a guy called Marc (via a Win2000 newsgroup). He suggested I turn the option "ASSIGN IRQ TO VGA" in the BIOS settings, to ON. I tried this and it worked.
