hi everyone, i have not posted for a while - way too much work.

well my problem is that i recently (last night) started playing pc games and for some reason whenever i play my screen gets indented to the left side (my left, monitor's right). i tried changing the resolution in the game settings but still no luck.

i have a ATI Rage 128 Xpert 32MB video card and the games are starship troopers and rouge spear.

any help would be appreciated.

thanx

In addtion to making sure your video card drivers and Direct X are not corrupted and/or are updated (don't do Direct X 8 on anything I say...I believe Rogue Spear only requires DX 6) check the game settings options for video tweaking. I know that in the settings you can turn off a lot of the extras to gain some performance. Here is an excellent site for tweaking http://www.tweak3d.net/tweak/roguespear/

I just bought the Rogue Spear Platinum pack 3 days ago and I love it. I had played Rainbow Six on Nintendo 64 and Playstation. I loved the Nin 64 version, but they really gutted it in the PSX version. Are you familiar with Dick Marcinko, the first commander of SEAL Team Six? His first few books are excellent and the very first one "Rogue Warrior" is absolutely great reading and supposedly the only non-fiction one in his series.

Do you have a speaker or anything else magnetic close to your monitor? This can distort the image. Otherwise, you may be able to make adjustments with the controls on the monitor itself, if it has them.

bassvax: i do have direct x 8 installed but this happened before i did that (what's wrong with directx 8?). i havent really gotten a chance to play that game yet but i cant wait. thanx for the tips. i dont know who Dick Marcinko is, is that his fictional title or is he really a seal?

tjaymadison : how close is close? i have one about 1.5 feet away and i have another 1 foot away underneath it but its a small one and its beneath the table(sounds weird i know).

thanx guys

You'll never know for sure until you move the speakers. Some monitors are more sensitive than others, some speakers are better shielded than others. Why not just move them and find out?

Hey Mang,
I found a solution...I noticed that my screen was acting the same way. I have my monitor resolution set to 1024x768 and I had Rogue Spear set to a diff resolution. When I changed Rogue Spear to the same setting 1024x768 the game was perfectly aligned. Hope this cures your situation. BTW wait until you get to Mission 6 Crystal Arc...it is extremely difficult...you have to plant spying devices without being seen and you can't whack anyone...I still haven't made it through http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Oh Joy

A refresh rate that the game tries to run with which the monitor doesn't
properly support is the usual cause of this problem. The screen is us-
ually shifted diagonally but shrinking of the image and overscan can al-
so result. Try setting all display properties to reflect a 60HZ refresh
rate, including the DirectX toubleshooting "override" setting in the
system configuration utility to see if this is the problem.
