View Full Version : Soundcard won't work with modem
I just installed a SoundBlaster Live soundcard. Now I can't get any internet audio back through the soundcard or my telephone dialer to work. This DID work with the sound system built into the mobo before I put in the new SB card.
I connected the 'Spkr' output of the modem (there is no line out connector on the modem) externally to the 'Line in' connector on the SB card. I also connected the TAD (Telephone Ans Device) of the modem to the one on the SB card. (Pin 1 of the TAD connector on the modem is not marked so I'm not sure of this connection, but I disconnected it, and still nothing works.) Also disabled the mobo onboard audio (CrystalFusion) in the setup. Could not get any output through the speakers. Re-enabled the on-board audio, still won't work.
Appreciate any suggestions.

what os are you using? Check in device manager, and click on cpu, and check your irqs, sounds like you have a irq conflict, put the modem in a diffenrent slot and try it then. Preferably, put sound card in pci slot 1 and skip a slot then put the modem, make sure there is a open slot in between cards, do this and post back

Operating system is W98.
Moved the card to a new slot so there is an open one now between the modem and SBlaster card.
The SB card WORKS in windows (always had) and I have been able to get it to receive Inet radio again, but the speakerphone on the modem still refuses to output through the speakers.

Have you opened the Volume Controls and checked to make sure that the "LINE IN" is not muted?

Duh .. I used to think I had a keen sense of the obvious. Guess it doesn't always work. I believe this is another case of the forest and the trees. You were right the mute 'line in' box was checked, cleared it and I have the speakerphone back. Thanks for the attention to detail.
