Monitor and computer on. nothing on the screen

Everytime I start my computer nothing appears on the monitor.
I tried switching monitors but still the same thing. I tried
both monitors with a different computer and they work fine so I
believe the problem is with the computer. I can here it boot up
and I can open the CD-RW and DVD drive but nothing comes up on the monitor screen

Some more system specs...what brand of computer, CPU (brand and speed), video card (whether it is onboard or an add in card and brand), memory (how much), what operating system, and if anything has been added/removed lately (hardware or software)....

try a different video card, if your video card is agp, then try a pci card.
