I get crackle or skip on sound when windows boots up and also when I access my website, the wave files are ok when I play them on their own. I was told that it was due to the m/b.
K7VZA ATX with o/b s/c
AMD Duron 750 Mgh (PR 999)
192 Mb RAM
40 Gb H/D (4 Partitions)
(I can not find any conflicts) Is there anything I can try to fix it?

Do you have sounds associated with any other Windows events? If not try assigning some and see if the problem exists there.
Where are you system resources after booting?
Make sure your cards and cables are all tight.
Any system changes since this problem started?

Hey,
From what I understand from your specs, you have onboard sound??
If so, that is probably the reason right there. Especially with booting, the machine trips over itself trying to load the onboard drivers and play the wav sound at the same time. Been there, done that.
My advice, is to either disable the sounds from playing, or disable the onboard sound and get yourself at least a 16bit sound card. You could also see if you can find updated sound drivers for the motherboard. That might help.
If I'm way off base, sorry, but I assumed that "with o/b s/c" means onboard sound. Generally, onboard sound is not too reliable. I know that's probably not what you want to hear, but it's the truth, so people will most often either put up with the idiosyncracies of it, or disable it and install an add-on sound card.
Good luck.

Problem has always been there from setup, I have checked all cables & found nothing amiss.
I did suspect that the prob was due to onboard sound! so I think I'll try putting in a sound card. What's a good card without getting into megabucks? what about Soundblaster?

Hi Vic,
Soundblaster has been around a very long time and basically set the standard.
You can get a nice PCI 16bit for ~30-35 Pound Sterling? If you're not into gaming or want four-speaker support, then the 16bit should be plenty.
Also, Phillips makes good soundcards. My son recently picked one up for less than the soundblaster costs.
Have fun shopping. If you want, I will come over and go with you. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I can spend hours and hours in a computer store. hehe
Cheers,
