monitor resolution problem

problem with monitor resolution with a s3 savage4 16mb video card. Resolution won't go above 640x480. not sure which driver to use for monitor because it is not branded. tried default monitor driver, didn't work. not sure what to do, any suggestions much appreciated.

amd 600mhz
300+ ram
directx 8*
win98

*maybe problem with directx 8 i think?

Try setting the monitor Plug and Play in your system / video properties.
Also make sure the s3 is correctly identified and has the correct video drivers installed.

DirectX should not have any effect on the normal use of the video.

Maybe you´ve got the monitor frequency on a value that is to high for your monitor. Try to slow down the refresh rate of your monitor to 70 hertz if it is higher than that.
