Hi, i could be wrong but it sounds like it needs a scandisk and a defrag, to do this go to start, programs, accessories, system tools.
first do scandisk tick thorough and auto fix errors, then do a defrag and
see if it helps.
PS. before you do above close all programs/screen savers. but not Explorer
or systray.
mite be wrong??

Hi,
thanks for your reply but no that is not the problem, as reformatted, with windows 2se and me, the results
being the same. i wondered if it could be a flucuation in my power supply, as the fan speed in the bios
varys quite a bit.

Hi tobyjug....
Nice PC you have there.
The power supply is a critical item running the 1.4 CPU. They are wattage intensive. Bigger is better here.
System fans vary a little in RPM as they spin, anything much more than a couple hundred RPM would/should be in excess. Power source problem or maybe the fan itself.
Also, the 1.4 is touchy about which BIOS it has to deal with. Out of the box many Mboard's (BIOS) were compatable with 1.2 and below. Therein lies the problems with the 1.4.
Are you using a good set of Detonator Drivers for your GeForce2 ?
Suggestion: Ease over to ECS website and browse thru the BIOS updates available and see if there isn't an update that will be beneficial.
Luck.

Hey Tobyjug,
I had similar problems when I went to a 1.4 Gb Athlon on a Chaintech 7VJD mobo, the answer should be in the powersupply, I upgraded from 300w to an enermax 350w dual fan, never had any bother since..........
