Hey guys,
I don't know if you've seen or not but I've made a few posts b4 now regarding memory problems while building a system.
Well thanks to you guys and gals I've finally completed the system and after trying 3d Mark 2001, I can't help but feel a little......deflated.
The reason is I've spent a fair bit on this system and I'm getting a score of 6488 on 3d mark 2001.
Here are the specs of the system:
AMD Athlon 1.4 o'clock to 1467Mhz
Chaintech CT-7KJD 266FSB
512 Mb DDR Ram
IBM 40.1 Gb HDD (7200RPM)
Elsa Gladiac 920 (Geforce 3)
Video Logic Sonic Fury Sound Card PCI
DVD
16x10x40 CDRW
I'm running all the latest drivers but still there are benchmark scores out there a good 1000-2000 higher than mine on a similar system. The system is running relatively cool for an Athlon (49 degrees) and the PSU is a 350W dual Fan Enermax jobbie.
Am I being shortchanged?????
Thanks,
The Prawn

Hi
Others will know much more about that benchmark, had you tried the PcPitstop (http://www.pcpitstop.com/) benchmark site??
some don't like it, but usually that's because they don't score good on it.
LoL
also there is SiSoftSandra (http://www.sisoftware.demon.co.uk/sandra/), which some like, some don't.
In other words, try several different tests.........

There are probably a lot of reasons that your scores are lower, one of them (probably the biggest) is going to be "tweaking", there are vaious settings that most gamers and avid benchmarkers play with in order to get the best out of the cards...try 3dSpotlight (http://www.3dspotlight.com/guides-hardware.shtml) for some 3d tweaking guides...

Hey Prawn....
Most of those higher-end benchmarks we see come from overclocking the daylights out of the GF3. Most of it with third-party software.
I don't care what 3d Mark 2001 says, I like your system. Quality.
Luck. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

LOL! i happen to be one of those guys who " ...Clock the snot out of the system .." http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
I get an average of around 8000 points in 3dMarkonion 2001; it really has to do with the particular hardware compatibility you have, some hardware doesn't work as well OC'd together as others ( it's also a driver issue ).
Don't get to tore up about these scores, as long as everything runs OK on your system and you see the graphics as exceptable, then nothing is wrong and just keep on sailing.
For some of us though it's; Mr. Scott! I need more power!!

And benchmarks are really only an indication of how the system runs the benchmark. The truth is that for most applications you wouldn't notice a difference between two systems that scored vastly different scores on benchmarking software...
Word is only gonna open so fast...in a game, anything over 60fps is a waste...unless you have some "real-world" indication that your system is not running the way it's supposed to, I wouldn't put too much stock in the benchmarks.
Of course, I know that won't help and you'll probably spend a lot of time getting the scores higher...just human nature... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
