I have just installed a Soundblaster Live card in my system & am still getting sound via the onboard audio. but not from the new card.

I checked in bios before I started and Soundblaster was listed as 'enabled'
I could not find anywhere to disable 'onboard audio'

I fitted the card (and daughter card) as per instructions, and installed the drivers. which are now listed in device manager as working properly with no conflicts.

I have removed the original connector from the CD rom (and left it hanging as it dissapears under the motherboard where I cant get at it) and replaced it with the new one, which is plugged into the new card.

There are also 3 other leads. 2 of which are midi in and midi out. but the third one is not shown. It is a 2 pin. 2 wire (one black & one white) but I cant see where it goes.

m/b is K7VZA
AMD Duron 750.

Hi Vic....

As you stated in your post. You went into BIOS before you started and the SB item was enabled. This needs to be set as disabled. Your on-board sound is using a version of the SB system.

You are using an ECS Mboard. Might go there and browse. www.ecsusa.com (http://www.ecsusa.com) . They have a decent Q & A section for thier Mboards.

Also, SoundBlaster is made by Creative Labs, for help with the SB Live you can go to www.creativehelp.com (http://www.creativehelp.com)

Luck.

Thanks for the links. Have got it working now.
http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
Onboard Legacy Audio = enabled
SoundBlaster = enabled

It doesn't seem to make a difference whether these are enabled or disabled, at least as yet I haven't found a difference. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
If Onboard Legacy is disabled, then SoundBlaster can't be highlighted or changed.

I'll start working my way through it now (& the bundled software) meanwhile if anyone has any further advice it would be appreciated. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif

Yes, another bit of advice here. Before you install the new sound card, boot in Safe Mode and remove all instances of the drivers for the onboard sound. This can be a bit tricky, because sometimes the system will reload them, even if the onboard sound is disabled in BIOS. If that happens, just choose "Disable in this Hardware Profile." That should take care of it.

Have fun.

EDIT: Oops, just noticed you have it working now, but if you have problems with it, try disabling the onboard sound in this hardware profile, as suggested above.
