I dont know what the hell is wrong here.

I have tried EVERY driver for my card that is out there. ( I have used det distroyer to remove all left over drivers when updateing and gone through my INF files, Regedit, etc to completly remove all left overs ) So I know its not left over drivers files.

I have used DX 8.0, DX 8.0a and Dx 8.1, no good.

I have use all the 4 in 1 drivers, still same thing happens.

I have formated time and time agin, same thing.

I have Vmem at 512 min, 512 max.

DMA is set.

Bios it set up to perfection ( no crashes ever and is rock solid )

I do not O/C anything.

I have gone through 3 Motherboards:
2 HD.
2 sound cards.
5 video cards.
2 monitors.
5 memory sticks.
and I still get the very same thing happen to me.

What happens you say?

Well, I can play any GL game to perfection but give me a d3d game and, yes it will run, most times at 85 FPS as I never turn off Vsinc as I hate tearing so my FPS are locked at my refresh rate, all is good there but I get so much stuttering, slowdown and skipping in ALL d3d games that they are unplayiable. I dont get any HD activity so its not my swap file or anything like that.

I can turn off Vsinc and the FPS go up to 200 FPS with most d3d games but I still get the same thing happen, stuttering, slowdown and skipping.

I have treid everthing I can think of to get it right, well at least to the way my GL games run, which are sweet as and very, very fast with no stuttering, slowdown or skipping.

The thing that has me really stumped is, my 3d mark 2001 score is a very healthy 7150 @ defult settings, give or take so my system is indeed very fast, in terms of the bench mark.

Please help as I am at a loss to what is causing my d3d game to run like a mutt while my GL games absolulty hammer.

Thank you for your time.

Hello Tbird i feel the pain, dont know exactly what d3d is but i had the same problem with Diablo, did all of what you did and nothing.Crap!!
How does Quake play? Does it stutter?
Have you tried dropping the resoulution of the game down a notch , this could help out a little but its probably useless.
Just let me tell you what i think bout this whole locking up on graphic extensive games. It boils down to the hardware namely the processer, which is a 32 bit databus. THis will continue and continue until the 64 bit processer are released, The data that the game is producing is too much for the 32bit processers to handle.Others on this forum have disagreed with this idea, but i stand firm on it. Video Cards boast bout 256bit datapasses, but in the real world the video still gets information from the ram and the processers, which bottlenecks this process. So until they have 64bit processers out youll be grasping your hair trying to figure out what the crap is going on.And in the end its the 32bit databuses, that are the culprit.

d3d, Direct 3d games, like Max Payne that use Direct X engine.

Q3 hammers. I never get any kind of stuttering, slowdown or anything like that and I have it 100% maxed out. In fact any Open gl game is on fire, the Return to Castle Wolfenstein online demo runs faster online than UT, MP and Operation Flashpoint do offline.

My computer never crashes and I have forgotten what the blue screen of looks like.

Only when I run Direct 3d games do I get this problem and lowering the res & detail does not help one bit at all.

I do fully agree with you on the 32 bit thing though, it is just way to slow.

Anyway, thanks for your reply.

If all the problems revolve around the D3D and video speed. Frame rate and so On.
I’d be getting in contact with the video card maker.
They should provide the latest and fastest DirectX driver for that card.

Also I have found that installing an update for direct x from MS will over write the manufactures supplied driver at times.
MS doesn’t optimize it’s drivers for each card.
Instead they go with less speed and more stable for their programs ,,
Not those provided by others.

It also wouldn’t hurt to look at the sound card direct x drivers.
In my last encounter with direct x problems the software programmer asked me to turn off the sound to see what effect that had.
Surprisingly it cured the problems with the direct x video .
The sound lagged behind the video and caused all kinds of problems.

Hey TBird,
Well, it looks like you have changed everything in that rocketship(HDD,memory,video,sound,CPU,drivers,...) , all with absolutly no change.
The only thing I don't see mentioned is CD-ROM. Do these games run off of a disk? I am not a gamer at all, so if that seems stupid http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif
Have you been to any of the forums that deal with these games, and does anyone else have these type of problems?
