I can hear music with only low volume. What i want to know is how to find which sound card my computer is using and how to replace it?

All the help will be greatly appreciated.

Welcome!

First let's walk through some troubleshooting tips; try opening your multimedia control panel applet by going to start/settings/control panel-then clicking on the multimedia icon. Then click on the advanced tab under playback-then select the performance tab and make sure hardware acceleration is enabled to " full " or " max ".

Also make sure on the main page of the dialog box that "use only prefered device is checked " and that your sound card is showing up in the little scroll window.

To verify your sound card, go to " My Computer " right click on it and in the drop down menu select " properties ". Then select the tab that say's "device manager ", look for the listing of " sound, video and game controllers ", expand that listing and there should be listed a sound card device { ie; Creative-soundblaster, Phillips, etc..}, then click on that listing and select properties.

This should give the make, model and name of the manufacturer of your sound card.

The other way is to open up your case and physically verify the actually sound card ( or to see if it's intergrated onto the mother board ), making sure to unplug the power and properly ground yourself first.

A quick way to determine if it's an actual expansion card ( or intergrated onto the motherboard ) is to look at the connectors on back of the PC; if they're inline with your other connectors-then it's a motherboard intergration, if the connectors are further down and horizontal to the side connectors ( probably right next to your modem or NIC card ) then it is a removable expansion card.

Post back with your discovery('s) and we'll try to help from there.

In the system tray right click the speaker icon and open volume controls and see if any of those need to be adjusted

Has the sound ever worked properly?

What kind of speakers do you have?
