View Full Version : Problem with sound card and choppy video

Hi ,
I am using Windows98 Second edition with Pentium2 Celeron processor at 266 Mhz , all of a sudden I noticed that while playing flash animation the computer freezes and also I am not getting any sound from the video files but when I play an audio CD I get the sound also when I start the PC in safe mode the flash animations and video files play OK , Can someone help?

Are talking about a dvd for the video files. If so wholl probably need a program called WinDVD, its solved all my dvd problems.
Also check for viruses, you may have contracted one.
Could be software also , did you load software on your cpu lately , try uninstalling and see if it works, if it works in safe mode ,then it adriver problem and you need to isolate it . MIght be newly hardware you added or software. Try that and then post back

I get those symptoms (intermittent freezes) when I don't have good sound card drivers loaded.

Hi Guys ,
Appreciate your suggestions I have isolated the fault , its the newly added PCI to USB converter card which is causing the problem , now the cards manufacturer says that Windows will automatically detect the hardware and install the appropriate drivers , but looks like I have to do some manual settings ,would like to hear some expert suggestions on this one . http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Some more information about your computer might be helpful.
By the way: I'm sure it doesn't matter for troubleshooting this problem, but you have either a Pentium II or a Celeron.
