Here's the problem.

I have no sound output at all

System specs

Windows ME
PcPartner MVP3BS7-954 VIAŽ Apollo MVP3 Chipset Baby AT Motherboard
AMD K6-2 300 Processor
Soundblaster PCI 512 card
Harmon Kardon Speakers

I have done all the obvious to me,Power on, Leads plugged in the right jacks, Checked volume settings correct, No IRQ conflicts, All device manager settings ok, Have uninstalled and reinstalled drivers, Physically removed and reseated the card in it's original position as well as in other PCI slots.

I am still getting no sound whatsoever. I have tested the card and speakers in a Win98 PC and they work just fine.

I have also installed a known good soundblaster card in this PC and it does the same thing

Any suggestions??

I looked up the specs on this board and see that on-board sound was an option on it...does yours have it and is it disabled?

Onboard sound is an option on this make, the one I am working on does not have it. I checked jumper settings before my original post and it is disabled. I also gave the bios a thorough going over and no combination of settings including factory defaults have worked.

I have tried the SC in each PCI slot with the same no sound result. The card is recognised by the operating system every time. To double check the slots themselves I installed a video card in each and get a display every time. Application un/reinstalls will be my next step.

Did you check under the multimeadi properties to see what playback device was selected?

Problem solved.

I had already done what you suggested above once but decided to go through it again to double check the settings. I selected the PCI 512 wave device as preferred using drivers for a PCI 128 card and tested it using the volume control icon in the systray again no result. I decided to reboot in case this was needed to finalize the settings. I had sound back as windows shut down.

By the way, Thanks for all the help!
