HELP! I can't get my resolution to change from 600. I have a new computer with an Epox 8KTA3+ mobo, Athlon 1.3Gig processor and ATI RADEON 64Mb AGP Rage Theater VIVO graphics card. I've tried everything. Mobo manuf says there are no known issues with this graphics card. ATI sent an 8 page email with tweaks from everything to changing BIOS settings, checking IRQs for conflicts, resetting the monitor type and refresh rate, lowering the hardware graphics slider, safe mode boot to remove all hardware and reinstall, downloading new drivers, removing and reinstalling all drivers, checking GART support.. nothing works.

When I change to 800x600 res and reboot, I always get a message that says "There is a problem with your display settings. The adapter type is incorrect, or the current settings do not work with your hardware." ATI diagnostics say everything is perfect. But directx diagnostics say I can run the directdraw test unless I use 256 colors and I can't get there. They also say direct3d support is "not available". According to ATI, both should be available for this card.

Has anyone had a problem like this? If so, how did you fix it? I really want to change the res and that should be something every graphics card allows. Scrolling to read emails and getting blurry pictures is really frustrating. Thanks for any help you can give me.

The typical list is motherboard drivers, video drivers...etc. Well you said you have checked all that, about the only other thing I can think of is...does this board have on-board video and is it disabled?

Thanks for the reply. I checked the manual for an onboard video jumper and there are none shown. I also checked the BIOS for onboard video. There's nothing listed - only onboard audio and legacy audio. Apparently the mobo maker thinks the card works with their default settings and the vid card maker thinks otherwise. I don't know how to resolve this but I appreciate your input. Thanks again.

What video driver is installed?
What operating system is installed?

Check your card's "TV" settings. Those settings only allow a max of 600x800 on most "TV" cards.

Good luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

Thanks for the info guys. The video driver is the latest one posted in October at the ATI site for this vid card. I downloaded it saturday. There are only two posted... the one that came with my card and the oct one. The Op System is Win98 SE. The monitor is an Optiquest V773... an older one but capable of resolutions up to 1024. No problems installing and reinstalling my old ATI 8Mb vid drivers an this monitor on my old system. Does any of this help? I'm going to try the TV thing... this is the first TV card I've had and I don't know much about using it yet since I can't get the system video set up right. Don't want to mess with anything else until the video is fixed. I appreciate the input... thanks.

I just wanted to thank the guys that responded to my problem. I got it fixed after an hour on hold on long distance and 3 min with the tech. It was the amount of memory I had installed. I had 256X3 modules in place and Win98 can only handle a max of 512. You have to reduce memory or edit your SYSTEM.ini files for more memory to work with Win98 or Win2000 because it's not based on the NT kernel... something to do with max and min allocation of video resources. I popped out a module as a temp fix and I'm installing WinXP soon that can handle the extra memory. Everything's working fine now. Again, thanks to those who responded. Maybe this info will help anyone who's installed more than 512Megs of memory and had problems. The tech said he's had a lot of questions on this same topic. Later guys. JAD

Well JAD, gald to here you have it fixed....

It is really more than just video resources...When you have more than 512MB installed you have all sorts of problems and since you were not complaining about some of the usual problems associated with that much memory made it difficult to diagnos as that without complete system info...
