What drivers do I need to download to make a Gainward GeForce2 Ti/450 work on Windows XP?
The suppied drivers don't work right, and the ones offered on the Gainward site don't seem to either.
The system has crashed at times with both drivers installed so far. If you know which drivers I need to install please advise. Also do I need to unstall all of the software and the hardware to get it to operate right?

You should uninstall the old drivers IF the card makers suggests it. ( Like Matrox does)
Then install the new drivers.
Remember to reboot after each operation .. Both uninstall and install.

As to where you should get the drivers.
If the card maker doesn’t supply a stable set of drivers you are in for a lot of hassle.
They are the people who need to supply them.
Finding them else where other than the XP cd it self will be difficult if not impossible

There is No Need to remove the hardware to replace or update the drivers

Go to nVidia and grab the latest (or maybe a little eXPerimentation is needed) Detonator series driver (they are the reference drivers and work for 99.99% of the GeForce cards, just make sure you follw the XP link, as there is some specific XP info there.....

Guru3d.com (http://www.guru3d.com) Contains all the reference drivers for Nvidia-including the newest ones they don't " officially " list on their own site.

{ click on th name above, it's a link to the site }

I've never seen a G3/450? You sure it's not a 500?

On the Guru's site download a tool called Detonator destoryer-when you uninstall the Nvidia card drivers use it before you reboot to remove any lingering .ini/.inf files from the previous drivers.

See if you can get the NT drivers and give them a shot. I did this with a trust sound card and managed to get it working with them. The only draw back was that I could not get the various sound effects (EAX) to work (for example the echo sound effect and the likes etc) and there has been no trouble with it. Remember to make Sys restore beofre installing them though just incase they cause a hic-up.
