View Full Version : is it my monitor?
Recently the screen on my monitor gets very dark and also shrinks in from the sides to about 4" wide down the middle. I've tried turning it on and off and it remedies it for a short period of time. I don't have access to another monitor to try swapping them and I can't change the power cord because it's permanently attached. Any ideas ???

How old is your monitor? Maybe the Pots need adjusting (not much help is it?)

Also check the cable between it and the computer...if it loose it can cause all sorts of problems.

I agree check power cors, you can pick them up for few bucks, there just kettle leads. Also check the pins at both ends of the monitor-base unit connection. If there bent or missing this problem can occur

toby,
If it turns out where your problem is not resolved using a new cord it appears that heat might be your nemesis. Especially, if your screen shrinkage is occuring after your monitor has been on for a time.
The inexpensive cost of new monitors today vs. repair pretty much dictates going the new route. Repair shops usually charge you a fee just to diagnose a problem. After you hear the repair costs you may opt to deep 6 the unit...yet you will be out the diagnostic fee which you could have applied to a new unit...which would carry a warranty! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/wink.gif
