I have a 433mhz amd-k6 processor running on windows 98se 160mb ram
I have 1 regular cd-rom and a cdrw-drive. one hard drive blah blah

allright people I had a cdrw drive installed some time ago and have had problems since I've had it and now its too late to take it back and get it fixed or whatever. It is a IDE-CD R/RW 8x4x32(I'm unsure of the manufacturer) Anyhow my regular cd-rom that came with the computer will play cds and I am able to hear it in the speakers... but with the newer drive that is installed it does not

*note*(I'm unsure if this will help out, but I think I should point it out)
1)I have recently installed win98se after reformating my hard-drive and I was unable to install windows from the cd r/rw drive (I received an abudance of errors) ... but the very first time I tried to install from the previous drive... it installed without any errors

A few things to check -

On the cdrw drive do you have the audio lead into the soundcard?

Does the soundcard have more than one input?

Go to Control Panel/Multimedia what is the the default drive for cd music?

I'm unsure if I have an audio lead to my sound card... and I'm also unsure how many inputs my sound card has How would I go about checking that?

To determine whether your sound card has more than one input you will need to open the computer up and actually look at the sound card or the place on the motherboard [if "onboard" sound] where the regular cd rom wire is attached to the motherboard for a second input set of 4 pins [ the same goes for looking at the sound card...for a second set of 4 pins]. If you have a second input[as I suspect you do], you will need to get a second wire to run from the sound card to the RW cd rom. DONT FORGET to UNPLUG the computer before opening it up!!!
