http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif I can play Cd's in my computer and hear them fine, but when I put in a game there is no sound..I also haven't been hearing any notification alerts.. I have currently downloaded Norton and have done a diagnoses check on my hardware and the test on my pc speakers have failed..I am pretty well computer illiterate and want to be sure that this is trully the problem, before taking a look at my motherboard..Now I have also run a test on the PC speaker by going into MS-DOS mode and I do get a resulted beep from the internal speaker.. I am confused..

I can always ask my computer guru older brothers, however, I would like to try and figure this out without them. I also cannot get a hold of them at the moment, lol. Do you know how I can get my sound back?? Am I completely brain dead? Is the answer completely obvious and I am just missing it??? Please help me... ImLost... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

First off the internal speaker and sound in Windows are not usually related...the internal speaker is just for the beeps and other noises when something goes wrong (not really but that is about all it is used for).

Second what was the exact message you got from the diagnostics you ran?

Third, do you have a sound card or onboard audio?

If the CDs are playing through your speakers then at least part of your sound system is working correctly. So, the first thing to check is to see if any of the volume controls have been turned down or muted. This can be done by right-clicking on the little yellow speaker down by the clock and selecting "open volume controls". If none are muted then it is time to check the audio properties (same place, but select adjust audio properties). There should be, under playback device, a dropdown list, make sure that something is selected there (ideally it should be your sound card). If ther is nothing listed then you will probably have to reinstall your soundcard drivers...

http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/cool.gif You pointed me in the right direction..The little yellow speaker was missing from my toolbar.. The wrong sound card was also listed..I managed to fix it...Thank you, if it weren't for you I would be incredibly lost...I almost feel as though I were found! One of these day I will be a computer guru... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
