Hello clive,
Welcome to http://www.pcguide.com/ubb/pcgubb.gif Forums!
Do you have external speakers, or integrated into your monitor? Does a headset work? Have you right clicked on the speaker icon in your system tray and looked to see if anything might be muted?
Do you have a separate sound card, or is your sound on board?

Hello clive
If you haven't changed your hardware or software and you believe this is an unfortunate configuration change rather than faulty hardware then:
1. Re-Boot, blip F8 to get to your Startup Menu, select "Command Prompt only" and at the DOS prompt enter "scanreg /restore".
2. Select a Registry Backup from the first boot on the day the problem was introduced, or else the day before.
If this problem is caused by a configuration change this will undo it.
If it does not undo it; then it's not caused by a configuration change and you should look for other possible causes.
