Quick Question..
I have installed a second pentium pro (200mhz)Into the secondary processor slot (socket 8) of my mother board. It is identical to the other one. (256k cache) I purchased a new hard drive (30g) and plan on doing a clean install of NT 4.0. The computer is an IBM pc365 (6589-13u.
MY Question.
The bios reads the the 2nd processor is not installed. Do I have to Install the OS then run uptomp.exe. Or should the Bios at least recognize the presence of the processor. Is their a dip switch or jumper somewhere to send voltage to the processor.
Please Advise.
Thank You in advance.

Here's some links that have the information you need.

Thanks for the info I appreciate it. I did notice that the software did not list my particular machine. Is this beacause it is and older machine. Should I go ahead and use it even though it dosn't list it?

I noticed that too but IBM's links do take you there so I guess we'll have to trust them. I read the PDF file and at first I thought I saw your computer listed. But I think all those computer and yours are proably of the same "line" so it should be safe.

Here's another link that explains the proceedure for adding a second CPU but with a computer running NT 3.5. It also uses the ADDCPU program. I think the program is used for all of IBM's computers that offer SMP.

Thanks for the response I really appreciate it. I will give it a shot. You don't happen to know if I need to physically do anything on the board during installation (jumper, dip switch, voltage regulator, etc...)
Or even know where I could find installation instructions I didn't have to much luck on IBM's site.

Take a look at these documents:
Documents page (http://www.pc.ibm.com/support?lang=en_US&doctype=Online+publications&subtype=Cat&page=brand&menu=family&brand=IBM+PC&family=IBM+PC%7CPC+365&subtype=Cat)
The "Installing options...." and "Technical information.." both have chapters on installing a second processor.
Good Luck http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif
