View Full Version : total bytes memory
Ihave a dell 850 p3. I cant launch resource cd or install certain different programs. Dell told me it was a virus so I bought a year of live update from symantec. Guess what. ...no virus. so... I downloaded diagnostics from dell and tried to run them from safe mode but they won't run either. no sound problems or anything that I can see. Can somebody help me out?....kuby
kuby here again I forgot but when I did a chkdsk it told me that I was short on total bytes memory by7,168 which just happens to be dividable by 1024 which is a sure sign of a virus(according to dell). thanks

hi,
You might try pcpitstop (http://www.pcpitstop.com/).They have a Live real time virus scan that once helped me.(when Norton/symantec didnt) Also you can run a full system scan to see if they have any suggestions.
*note* If u run a Full pc test, you get better results if u shut everything down except the browser doin the test. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif
**additional note** I strongly do Not reccomend the "Panda Anti-Virus" that is advertised there, as I know of @ least 2 people (independantly) that have had a major problem with it. (I'm one)

Make that 3...I do not recommend Panda either, had major problems with it twice. Used it the second time knowing it would cause problems, but wanted to run a couple of different virus scanners just to be sure, and planned on formatting and reinstalling later anyway. Needed to be sure the original problem was not virus related, so I took a chance on Panda. It trashed the machine same as it did the first time, but then I knew to uninstall it and run scanreg...so it was no real problem.
In case you're wondering, the format/reinstall went perfect.
