The AC adapter connector on the motherbard wasn't working on the ..Replaced it but hubby put on wrong and mixed the ground and positive connections. He then fixed that. Now the display has colored lines on it . We then decided to try an external monitor. heres what happens on the external monitor ..When you boot up the system...There are 4 overlapping pictures. If we press the external-monitor button on the keyboard real fast we intermittently get the picture to be perfect but as soon as the computers gets to windows you have 4 pictures overlapping again on the external monitor. The regular monitor never gets beond the colored vertical lines. All ribbons have been checked...All connections are tight. I feel that a that a capacitor was taken out. Where could the problem be. I have a Compact presario 1610. No schematics so I am not sure where to even start. I would rather be able to pinpoint the component versus replacing Boards. I wouldn't doubt replacing the mother-board is the answer....but what if its not.
