Last night I was on the computer. Opened the CD rom and the Tray came out Crooked. Than it would not go back in. I finally got it to go in but
it continues to come out slanted to one side. I'm assuming that either its
broken and will need to be replaced or the tray is off the track inside.
Is this Fixable or should I just replace it?
CD Rom is HI Val 56x http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/eek.gif

Doesn't sound good, Blaze. You might possibly remove the ROM from the computer and very carefully take the CD-ROM case apart and try to figure out why it's coming off the track. This is a new one on me, never heard of that before.
If you can't figure out why it's coming out cockeyed, it may be time to go shopping. Does it read OK otherwise? Maybe you could get by with it for awhile if the only problem is the crooked tray. Otherwise, CD-ROM's can be had fairly cheap nowadays.

Funny thing is that whenever I put a CD in now it jams while closing. But as far as reading on Sunday I did a Windows 98 install using it.
Never took a CD apart before, guess there is always a first time for everything. Cann't hurt trying if it saves me the cost of a new one. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Well it probably won't ever be quite right again but taking the drive apart and checking to see if the gears mesh properly on the tray is a good place to start. If it jumped the track then there has to be a reason for it(like worn or chipped gear, physical damage from bumping or something like that). You may be able to get the teeth aligned with it apart but if not then look here:PriceWatch (http://www.pricewatch.com/)
