When I recently installed Win2K on my system, it installed my USB controller as a quote "Unsupported VIA USB Host Controller". I've previously installed Win2K with no problems, and usually installed the VIA USB Host Controller. Win98 installed it as the Standard PCI to USB Host Controller or the VIA PCI-to-USB Host Controller.
I have no USB loving for my Microtek 3600 USB scanner.
I've tried forcefully installing different drivers, but there are always errors with their install, yet the USB hub goes in, its finds my scanner, but I get conflicts all over the place and nothing works.
When I try to uninstall my unsupported host controller and reboot, it always restarts it with that config. Even if I've installed another driver, and had errors when I reboot or shutdown and reboot it always comes back with the same "Unsupported VIA USB Host Controller".
I installed the VIA USB filter and it says that my hardware is reporting to windows that I have a "Unsupported Via VT82C586 PCI-to-USB Chipset". HOWEVER...my mobo book and the QDI website specifically say I have the VT82C596A south bridge and its appropriate USB controller...
I once had a fully functioning USB joystick and scanner...not anymore. What gives? I know my host controller is supported, because I've had it functioning in WIN2K and Win98/ME before...but here are my system stats
Pentium III 450
QDI Legend Advance 5 mobo
128mb RAM
Nvidia TNT2 32mb
VIA Apollo Pro Plus chipset:
VIA VT82C693 North Bridge supports 100MHz SDRAM
VIA VT82C596A South Bridge supports:
1. Independent timing of up to 4 devices
2. PIO mode 4 transfers up to 14MB/sec
3. Supports "Ultra 33" synchronous DMA mode transfers up to 33MB/sec
4. Two USB ports
What I want to accomplish is to be able to install the other USB drivers, because they seem to work, but I get errors at install...
There are no VIA drivers from VIA itself www.viatech.com, (http://www.viatech.com,) except the USB Filter. There are no drivers or an updated BIOS from QDI, www.qdigrp.com (http://www.qdigrp.com) . And customer support from both has been non-existent.
Any help you guys can give me, would be greatly appreciated
