View Full Version : Problem with ports

My brother-in-law just put Windows ME on his Celeron 433 computer and he has all kinds of problems with his periferals. His flatbed scanner stopped working for some reason, so I reinstalled it and it was fine. Then he bought first a cheap off-the-shelf no-name modem and couldn't get it to work, even with the latest downloaded drivers. Then he exchanged it for a US Robotics 56k Winfax modem and couldn't get it to work either. We installed it the exact way that the instructions said, and it showed up under device manager with no problems, but then when I tried to check it under "modems" there was no response. Is this a Windows ME problem or what?
Did you use the latest drivers for the USR (WinME Version from here (http://www.usr.com/support/s-main-menu.asp))?
Also did you completely remove the old modem? (Following its uninstall procedure)
You can try removing the old one in safe mode (hit <ctrl> when starting or type mscconfig in the run box (start menu -> Run) and turn on the startup menu). Go to device manager (Control Panel -> System) and see if the old one shows up there, if it does remove it.

Do Vulcans even have to debug?
