Help! I'm having a weird printing problem. When I try to print a page from a website, I get this error: "Error reading script for this page". A detail box pops up and says "Error 1051, Character 2". I can print from any regular program I have. I also have Screen Shot screen capture program and I can print what's on the screen from the website... I just can't get the printer to print the web page using the regular print radio button. I have unplugged the printer and optimistically downloaded new drivers... Ugh! Same problem. Does anyone know why web pages won't print for me? http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif
Does this error occur at a specific website or any site?
What Kind of printer do you have?

Thanks for reply mjc. This happens at several computer shopping sites I visit like tigerdirect.com and pcmall.com, and almost always at mysimon.com when I'm using the shopping bot and linking to manufcaturers web pages. I'm building a new pc and trying to compare prices and print out specs for the hardware I want to order. B4 this problem, I used to be able to print out an entire web page but when I tried to print another one, my Spool32 subsystem crashed. I had to reboot, then could print another page, then crash again. Now I can't print a page at all. This only happens with web pages.. other stuff prints fine. Is that any help?
The one thing that I came up with is that error 1051 is a scripting error. It's possible that there is a Java or VBS scripting problem.
" How to fix SPOOL32 errors when printing?
START > RUN > PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES > SCANDISK [you can use the standard test]
Delete all the files in the <Windows>\TEMP folder and/or the \TEMP folder and/or the \TMP folder
START > SETTINGS > PRINTERS
Right click on the printer > PROPERTIES
DETAILS tab > SPOOL SETTINGS
Set the format to RAW > OK > OK > Close the printer folder
If the SPOOL32 errors persist:
Remove the printer driver.
Reinstall the printer driver with the RAW settings "
The above is from http://www.911networks.com/

I never print an entire webpage, instead I only want the text, not all the graphics, ad banners etc. So I never use the print button. Here's how I get around that kind of thing, and get only the text:
Highlight all the text you want to print. You can click and drag across the first word, then scroll to the last word, hold down [Shift] and click behind the last word. That will highlight all text in between. Then right click inside the highlighted text, and click Print. Look in the pop up box at the Print Range section and click Selection then click OK. that will print only the highlighted text, and no graphics, etc.
See if that works better, unless you really want to print out all the unnecessary pictures...saves ink too. Lets you print only the portions of a page you need, rather than the entire thing, ads, graphics and all.

Thanks for the tip Pete. I don't print web pages that often either, but it bugs me when something doesn't work correctly... one of those "Inquiring minds need to know" things I guess. For this pc building project, I wanted copies of the graphics for the case, mobo, etc along with the specs so I could put them in a folder, refer to them as I decided on new hardware and be sure everything would work together. The Screen Shot program solved that immediate problem, but I couldn't find any reference to scripting errors or spool32 crashes in any of the ref material I have. I appreciate the input from you guys... thanks again.

Note to mjc. Sorry... I didn't see your second question. I have a Lexmark 5700 ink jet printer. Great color and text printing... when it works! It's about 3 years old and I just got new drivers for it from the website. I have First Aid 2000 on my pc and I get errors like "Lexmark program just crashed... 16 bit error... program performed an illegal action"... or "Spool32 subsystem just crashed... illegal action." The system locks up and I have to reboot. I ran the diagnostics and FA2000 says everything is working properly. If that's true, I guess I have some Win98 SE settings messed up. I've tried changing settings but still get the same errors. Thanks again for the tips.

I do as Pete said, when wanting to print TEXT from a web site....
would suggest that you completely uninstall and then re-install the lexmark, I have one too and this was the only way to get mine working correctly. (lexmark z-11)

Thanks sea69. I'll try that today and see if the beast works properly. I'm thinking about buying the Lexmark z52, but if it has as many problems as my old one, I may just go to another brand. Thanks again.

please, you may have misunderstood.. I absolutely LOVE my lexmark printer!!
It only cost me $50.00 (after rebate--which they did send)
it is excellent and prints 1200 x 1200dpi, can't beat the price.. cartridges cost about $30.00 (all prices in US), and print appoximately 2000 pages, per cartridge.
I couldn't be happier. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

How is the printer cabled to your system -- USB or parallel? If parallel, how do you have the printer port (LPT1) mode set in BIOS? You usually have options like "standard, EPP, and/or ECP". If you choose one of the bi-directional modes, you also need to have a printer cable that supports the mode you selected.

sea... I agree with you about the Lexmark printers. I did homework and picked Lexmark because of the great color prints and sharp text prints. All models show up in the best buy sections of pc mags regularly.
tjay... I have an IEEE-1284 parallel cable attached to LPT1 and it's configured as ECP for bi-directional. I get the verbal messages like "printing started" and "printing complete" so I know it's working. I have a feeling I have some software conflict that causes the Lexmark printer program and/or the spool32 system to lock up during printing. Printing starts but crashes before completion. I tried printing only text from the web site but only 2 pages of a 5 page job printed b4 it crashed so that didn't work. I'm going to try removing the printer and reinstalling it today. I appreciate the input. Thanks to everyone.
