Hi all,
I'm having a problem with my mouse when using win 2k. It won't scroll at all with any programme. i checked all the setting, irq 12 is fine (it's a ps/2) with no conflicts, the o/s detects the mouse, but no scrolling. Could this have something to do with the driver in Win2k? It is a generic mouse, I have no idea what make it is. Anyone have any suggestions?
thanks, crussty
Is it a wheel mouse?
And yes, some mouse drivers do not have the scroll function enabled in 2k...

Logitech's Mouseware (http://www.logitech.com/cf/support/mousefiles_w2000.cfm) works with a non-Logitech mouse for me, you might give it a try.
PS: According to the link, Win2k Mouseware users planning to install SP2 should use the latest (9-17-01) version (but I didn't have any problems with an earlier one).

You might also try drivers from Microsoft. I've had luck with their intellimouse drivers for a couple old mice on the backup machines.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I tried some other drivers and such, no luck. Does anyone know of any conflicts with win2k and some mice? The mouse I have is a generic, "no name" brand wheel mouse. It scrolls fine in winME, but not in win2k, and it's using the same driver for both O/S. I just can't figure it out. I'm contemplating just purchasing a brand new "good" mouse. We'll see.

I haven't check there recently, but Microsoft does have a Win2K Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) that you might want to take a look at. I don't recall if they also included rodents, er, I mean mice. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif
However, since Win2K is a bit picky about what hardware you chose...I would definitely suggest upgrading. I think it was iisbob that is using a wireless mouse he was raving about. If he reads this thread perhaps he would be so kind as to leave the info...actually I'd be interested myself!

If you don't go wireless, I'm using a Microsoft Optical Wheel Mouse that works very well...and it is nice to know I'm not gonna have to worry about crud getting into the ball port...and, the little rodent even works on carpet!
