I put in a matsonic motherboard with socket A and a 700mhz duron processor.

Forgive me if I sound patronising, but have you checked that you haven't got the PS2 mouse and keyboard connectors the wrong way round?

I did that once with similar results.

If it's not the mouse and keyboard then I think we need a bit more info. When you switch the computer on what exactly happens?

You say it identifies the CPU. Does it also count up the memory? Does it detect the floppy and hard drives? And when you say it locks up, how long exactly have you left it for? Have you connected the PC internal speaker? If so, do you get any warning beeps? Also, what type of bios does the board have?

Get back to us with these details and we should be able to shed more light on the issue

Well, what I normally do when this sort of thing happens is to take everything apart and start again from scratch. You could try setting up the board out of the case with only the bare miniumum of processor, memory and VGA card. Attatch the power supply, boot up and see what happens. (make sure you don't have your board resting on anything metal though!)

If you still get the same problem then I can only assume that there is a problem with your motherboard. If it is still under guarantee then try taking it back to your supplier.

Please remember, however, that I am not a computer expert and others on the forum may have more experience of this particular board and processor. If you leave you replies on the forum instead of mailing me direct then there is a better chance somebody else will see the thread and offer their advice.

Good luck,

Andy
