I have a computer that was built by a local computer store, it has a 400 mhz processor, 64 mb ram, 8 gb hard drive, 56 k modem, two usb ports.
This is the first time I have used either usb port, but when I plug my new printer into either usb port, if I dial up to get on line with my modem I get disconected within 2 minutes, or can't even get on line and the modem sometimes has the same pitch sound while trying to connect to the server, if I unplug the usb cable from the printer I can get on line and it stays on line and the modem sounds normal then, the printer works fine with the usb port, I just have to unplug it when dialing up to the server to get on line.
Thanks, Mister D
I was having a problem with a USB modem and a parallel printer...would get disconnected everytime I tried to print while online...I have a 500MHz Celeron...I suspect that in my case the USB modem was using to much ot the CPUs time and when I tried to print something had to give...
I would start by making sure that you have the latest drivers for both the modem and the printer, checking in Device Manager (right click on My COmputer and select properties) for any conflicts, doing the same in safe mode (f5 while booting) and also in safe mode looking for any "ghost drivers"...delete the "ghost drivers".

Didn't find any Ghost Drivers or duplicate devices anywhere, someone suggested that I replace my modem with a Hardware modem, my existing modem is a aceex 56k fax data voice modem, Does anyone know if it would help???
I guess I could try hooking up the priner via the parallel port and see what happens, I guess the speed and quality would be affected, since USB is supposed to be faster and better????????????
Thanks

Faster...yes...better, maybe, the data sent to tje printer is the same, just gets there faster.
A hardware modem may also help, it will relieve the CPU of that duty...

I hooked the printer via the parallel port and the problem is solved, I can stay on line as long as I like.
Thanks
