Hi all,
I recently upgraded one of my PC's to Win2k from 98SE. It was a write over rather than a wipe and load. I don't know if it would make a difference. But anyway Win2k does not recognize the printer I have connected to it, it woked fine in 98. Which is a 7 year old Citizen GSX230 dot matrix machine. I used the drivers provided by w2k which are the correct ones., Citizen does not provide drivers for this model anymore and I am unable to find new and updated drivers anywhere else. I have the printer connected in line with a parellel HDD which works fine. I also connected the printer direct to the parallel port bypassing the HDD to no avial. With the HDD working tells me that the parallel port is working. My BIOS is set to ECP/EPP which is what it was set at under 98 and I updated the chipset drivers to the most current version. I even went thru the wk2 troubleshooter without any luck. I removed and reinstalled the parallel port and ran a hardware detector utility which found the port without any problems. So I am running out of ideas.

I only use the printer to print a datatbase file once a month, I can tranfer the file to my other PC and print from there if I have to but I would like to get this one working.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What does Device Manager indicate? Any "unknown devices" with a yellow qusetion mark, or any yellow exclamation points?

Hi kenja,
It does not indicate any unknown devices or problem devices. No IRQ conflicts etc.. I'm at a loss.

I see your model listed in the Win2k "Add Printer" wizard, and I guess the printer is too old to be Plug-n-Play. Seems obvious that you have a bidirectional cable from the previous setup. Gee, I dunno.

Thanks for your reply and research kenja. I'll just keep messing with it and see if I can figure it out. It just happens to be one of those troublesome setups.

blaker,

Seems that perhaps a driver that will work with your "mature" printer and Win2K is stretching the reality envelope! http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/frown.gif

One solution, since you want to continue to use the printer would be to dual boot so that you can keep your Win98 driver that works with it.

I'm not sure if 2k has a generic Epson compatable driver, but yo may want to try that, and you may be able to find NT drivers for it...they may also work......
