In order to replace the battery on my AT motherboard, I had to pull out the expansion cards (sound, modem, and video). After putting everything back together, the system goes past the point in the boot process when the monitor usually turns on, but the monitor remains blank. I checked the video card and firmly reseated it, but the problem remains. I am running Windows 98 SE and the computer and monitor were both working fine before replacing the battery. The video card is in a PCI slot, but it can't be put into another one because it is a long card and the processor blocks it.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/smile.gif

I hope you grounded yourself before handling your different boards, and was carefull not to touch the circuitry. Try cleaning the contacts on your Video card with the eraser on a pencil, and see if that helps.

Are you getting any beep codes?

It is also possible that by removing the battery you could have lost your Bios settings. You may have to deal with that after you get the monitor working again... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/rolleyes.gif

Pull all cards except the video card, and reseat it. Try it, if you get video shut down and install another card. Add everything that way, and see if you get to a point where you lose video again. If so, that card is causing problems, wait until you get windows to run again before trying to reinstall it, boot into safe mode and remove it from Device Manager and then reinstall it.

First time you can boot and get video, go into BIOS and reset hard drive parameters, floppy type etc before installing any other cards.

When you take out the battery, you only have a certain amount of time to replace it before all your CMOS settings are lost.
I hpe you did not take long.

Don't PANIC !!! I think all that happened is you lost your BIOS settings! All you need to do is start up system and push the DEL key and when the BIOs screen comes up:
1. Tell it to use DEFAULT settings
2. Have the motherboard redetect the Hard Drive
then save and reboot!
