Hi. I just bought a used pentium 2 computer. When I got it the processor and fan were loose in the case. So I hooked those back in and started the system. It worked fine then about 5-10 minutes later I smelled a faint burning smell is how I would describe it. Just as I was about to shut it off, it automatically restarted but nothing came up on the screen. I then inspected all the connections, with nothing looking wrong. When I start it up now, it just clicks for a couple seconds like usual but no beeps. The cpu fan is running, and the floppy drive runs continuously from the moment i hit the switch. The hard drive light is red. What do you think is the problem?

If you are lucky the power supply went out .......if you are unlucky you had a short on the motherboard as a result of some device not being seated into a slot far enough. If you are unlucky.....it's gonna get kind of expensive to get it back up and going again.

Woops......you said the cpu fan was on....it's NOT the power supply! The floppy light staying on means you have the floppy drive cables on wrong. I think you have a shorted out the motherboard....OR you dont have one of the devices seated properly on the mainboard and it shorted out. If it worked ok for a few minutes and then the burning smell......thats usually a short. Yikes!
