i can't stay online my modem says it is working fine but why then constantly getting booted.everything is set to default settings,no hardware conflicts.it is an internal modem on my h.p. n3250 pavillion notebook.ess technologies 56k
The first place I'd look is the TCP/IP settings in your DUN under server type.
Confirm that all you settings are correct and conform to your ISP requirements
If your ISP uses PPP for log on confirm your log on name.
Most require a "P" before the logon name . Ie: "Pname"

Sorry to say it, but that sounds like classic winmodem symptoms...that is the most common problem with software based modems, and the only way I know of to fix it is to replace it with a hardware modem. The problem is that they are designed to talk to other Lucent modems, and most ISP's don't use them. The software used to connect is often flaky too.
Check Device Manager, if it says LT winmodem, HSF or HCF it's a software modem, and that's the main problem.
It's also made by HP, and they normally use winmodems because they are cheaper.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!
