Among other numerous computers i own a Dell WinBookXL, I cannot operate the computer unless it is plugges into the wall. Even if i leave my laptop off for days, plugged in, apparently charging, the moment i unplug it the screen dims severely and i get the message to switch to a new power source before i lose unsaved information. I dont know what's wrong with it. Can I fix it in control panel with the power settings, or is my battery dead? Help please

The word "maybe" is the most important word in the English language. It allows one to give a response that seems to have some thought put into it, when in truth it is most often used as an excuse by those of us who dread the day we have to clean the cobwebs out of our heads.

Sounds like the battery is not accepting a charge...try cleaning the contacts, if that does help any then it is time for a replacement battery.

Two words: 'Shorted cell'. When the remaining cells are fully changed and machine is plugged into the wall, everything seems okay but as soon as you unplug and put a load on the battery, the voltage drops enough to tell the machine that its battery has run down. Let the battery run down to full dead (screen goes black, machine shuts down) one time, then recharge it; once in a while I have seen them recover the bad cell. If this doesn't work, you need a new battery.
