View Full Version : Sudden Reboot from 600x

Anyone got a bad experience with thinkpad 600x? My machine trends to shut down and reboot occassionally and it is happening more frequent.

When it restarts, it has to go through scandisk so it guess it is not a shutdown.

There was even one occassion that it goes to a white blackground screen with IBM logo at the back on the top right hand corner and with a harddisk shape logo with a counting bar. When the bar is full, it just shut down. Even the fan makes no noise. When I try to restart it (pressing the on/off button), it doesn't go through the booting process but pops me back to the screen of where I was with all the applications. The machine is getting more wierd.....

It is a off the shelf machine with no additional hardware. It is running win98se with a USB mouse and working on a wireless lan

That disk logo and counter bar sounds to me like some kind of power management is forcing a "suspend to disk" operation....does it do this while connected to AC power or just on batteries?


If it is just batteries then they may not be holding a cahrge, and it is time to replace them.

Well, it is always connected to AC and it still shutdown and reboot.... I am suspecting something funny with the harddisk...

If you are always connected to AC then try disabling all power management....

I have just tried to reset all power management to always on and without any hibernation. Let's see how it works. Is there any chance for high temperature like in the desktop case or accumulated dust and like?

Always a possibility, but it is much harder to get into to clean out......
