I got a new computer which is great but I want to keep my old computer around for the kids to play games on and use for schoolwork, etc. What I want to do with the old computer is delete the harddrive and reinstall the OS so everything thats old garbage is gone and I can start fresh again on it. The old computer is a HP Vectra with a think its a 75 mgz pentium overdrive cpu. 40 megs of ram 850 meg h.d. I have all the driver discks for the other hardware. The present OS is a windows 95 upgrade which I have the cd for I also have a windows 98 second edition cd that I bought for my new system. What i need to know is what the best way to purge the old puter and reinstall the OS. Also which windows version would work best with it.
thanks for any help and this is a great site too!

one could this really regard as old. i think you won´t have too much choice as which os is best - i personally would recommend dos 6.22 for your hardware.

seriously - just install win 95 it will work somehow.

Pretty sure that a question dated "9-09-2000" has been resolved, one way or another, by now!:)

Actually, he did get some answers, and from some pretty heavy hitters too!

Kay, your powers of observation are much stronger than mine. I have to admit, when I view a new post, I rarely look at the date. Just assume it's somewhat recent. Like in the last month. But two YEARS ago! LOL.:)

HeHe- That's pretty funny. Yes, most likely the problem is solved. (And the computer is in the land fill).
It is kind of cool reading the original thread malcore. ;)
I especially like the part about "Windows ME comming out soon"!
My, how time flies when you're having (Computer) fun! :D

ME would have had a fit on that system! LOL :D Even 98 would be very borderline. Have to MASH Kay "Hawk-eye" now instead of "Hot-lips".

Quote: "you may find it easier to just buy than that install Windows 98 (SE?) and then have to do all the bugfixes, upgrades, etc. A lot of reasons to go with Me, rather than 98."

As they say, hindsight is 20/20. Not a line I suspect we will see ANYWHERE!:p

The only reason I thought to check was the "850 MB" hard drive! My puter is pushing three years old, and I have 4 GB. Considering the small size of the hard drive, I thought wussowe's Dos 6.22 suggestion was a good one...lol.
