What is the purpose of the winstart.bat file?

Also, i think in windows there is a feature that you can restore missing components of windows or add some things that were not installed from the win98 cd, such as boledit. where do you go to do that?

I need to know because i uninstalled some network components by mistake... http://www.PCGuide.com/ubb/mad.gif

Hey Zed,

Here ya go: http://www.zdnet.com/zdhelp/stories/main/0,5594,2390246-7,00.html

Bet you didn't know anything about winstart.bat. When Windows starts, immediately after the splash screen appears, Windows looks for a file called winstart.bat in the root of the boot drive (typically C:\). If such a file exists, Windows runs it before Windows itself takes control. If you have any remaining problematic autorun programs look in winstart.bat. Delete the file if you don't need its contents.

winstart.bat is used to run applications that need to be started before Windows is run, but don't need to be loaded for DOS (as part of the autoexec.bat file)

Try going to the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, Windows Setup tab. Good luck.
